How to Earn School PE Credit Through Martial Arts Training

North Texas MMA has been an approved LISD External PE provider for Lewisville ISD students and homeschool students for years. Our martial arts programs give students in grades 6-12 a practical way to earn physical education credit while building real skills in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing, wrestling, and weight training.

What is LISD External PE?

Lewisville ISD allows eligible students in grades 6-12 to earn physical education credit through approved external programs. Instead of traditional school gym classes, students can train at facilities like North Texas MMA and have that training count toward their PE requirement.

This option works well for students who:

  • Are homeschooled or attend private/charter schools
  • Want structured martial arts training instead of standard PE
  • Already train at NTMMA and would like school credit for it
  • Need a flexible schedule that works outside school hours
  • Prefer skill-based physical education

Programs That Count for External PE Credit

Students enrolled in LISD External PE at North Texas MMA can participate in:

  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi and No-Gi): Ground control, defensive technique, and positional strategy
  • Muay Thai Kickboxing: Striking fundamentals, footwork, pad work, and conditioning
  • Wrestling: Takedowns, balance, body control, and mat awareness
  • Weight Training: Strength development, proper lifting form, and functional fitness
  • MMA Fundamentals: Combined training across multiple martial arts ranges

All programs emphasize discipline, fitness, technique, and respect while providing measurable skill development.

How LISD External PE Works at NTMMA

For Current NTMMA Students

If your child already trains with us and you would like their Jiu-Jitsu, kickboxing, or strength training to count toward LISD PE credit, contact your school counselor. They will provide the required application forms. We can supply documentation of training hours, program structure, and instructor credentials as needed for the enrollment process.

For New Students

Students who are new to North Texas MMA should visit a class before beginning the External PE process. This allows the family to meet coaches, see the training environment, and confirm that the program fits the student’s goals and schedule. Once enrolled as a member, the family can proceed with the LISD External PE application through their school counselor.

Grades Served

LISD External PE is available for students in grades 6-12. Younger students are welcome to train in our kids programs, but External PE credit applies only to middle school and high school students.

Homeschool and Private School Students

Homeschool families in the Lewisville ISD area can use North Texas MMA for External PE credit by following the same application process through LISD. Private and charter school families should check with their school’s administration to confirm whether they accept external PE credits and what documentation is required.

Training Schedule and Attendance

Students training for External PE credit are expected to attend classes consistently throughout the semester or school year, depending on LISD requirements. North Texas MMA offers classes seven days per week, with youth and teen programs scheduled in the afternoon and evening to accommodate school schedules. Families can choose training days that work best for their student.

Getting Started with External PE

  1. Contact your school counselor to confirm LISD External PE eligibility and request the application.
  2. Visit North Texas MMA to meet coaches, tour the facility, and try a class.
  3. Enroll as a member if the program is a good fit.
  4. Submit your External PE application to LISD with required program details from NTMMA.
  5. Begin training and track attendance as required by LISD.

Why Families Choose NTMMA for External PE

As you prepare for the school year, consider what you want your child to gain from physical education. Running, jumping, and playing games can be fun, but martial arts training offers something more: practical self-defense skills, discipline, confidence, and physical literacy that transfers to other sports and life situations.

At North Texas MMA, students don’t just exercise—they learn how to move under pressure, solve physical problems, control their body, and respect training partners. That foundation stays with them long after PE credit is earned.
